Peregrino Gris es un grupo costarricense de música celta (denominación que se da generalmente a la música influenciada por las corrientes de música tradicional de Irlanda, Escocia, Galicia, y la Bretaña Francesa). El grupo se fundó el 11 de marzo del año 2001, aunque el trabajo de investigación y composición se inició unos siete años antes. Peregrino Gris ha participado en diferentes actividades. Entre las más importantes se encuentran:

• Festival Caribe Sur en Playa Chiquita, Limón (2001 y 2002)
• Festival de Música de Monteverde (2002, 2003, y 2010)
• Presentación en el Primer Festival Internacional de Música Celta tocando junto al
renombrado compositor, cantante e instrumentista irlandés Andy Irvine, y junto a
Asgaya, grupo que interpreta música tradicional y contemporánea de su natal Asturias
(2005)
• Festival Transitarte de la Municipalidad de San José (2006, 2007, 2008 y 2009)
• Festival Internacional de las Artes (2006)
• Festival Nacional de las Artes (2003, 2007 y 2009)

Además de otros festivales, ha tenido muchas presentaciones en actividades públicas y privadas, tanto culturales como comerciales, y se presenta constantemente en el Jazz Café en San Pedro. En diciembre del año 2003 salió al mercado el primer disco compacto del grupo, el cual produjo que el grupo se diera a conocer a varios niveles y se creara un público bastante grande para su música. Dos años después, en diciembre del 2005 el grupo publica su segundo disco denominado “Confrontación”, ambas producciones incluyen composiciones 100% originales y han tenido bastante éxito de ventas y difusión. Adicionalmente, el grupo grabó un tema tradicional junto al grupo Asgaya de Asturias (España) en el año 2006. En estos momentos el grupo está en el proceso de grabación de lo que será su tercer disco compacto con música original, además de buscar la posibilidad de salir del país a presentar su música. El grupo además incluye dentro de su repertorio música tradicional de Irlanda, Escocia y Galicia.

Peregrino Gris nace en Costa Rica, un país en el que, en apariencia no existe ninguna relación con los países llamados celtas. Sin embargo, este proyecto nació no solamente de escuchar la música de Irlanda y Escocia, sino que venía de un trabajo más profundo de conocer, escuchar y hasta interpretar músicas tradicionales de diferentes países del mundo, para que a través de sus músicas conocer las costumbres y forma de vida de sus gentes. Así, este proyecto de investigación nos ha llevado a un viaje cultural de exploración, en el que se descubre no solamente una relación entre culturas aparentemente diferentes, sino también, por vivencia propia, que la música es un Lenguaje Universal, una necesidad humana, y que las músicas tradicionales parecen enlazarse entre sí de una forma natural, uniendo a todos los seres humanos como parte de un todo. Seguidores de Peregrino Gris son testigos y partícipes de esta conexión: por medio del proyecto ha habido una interacción con muchas personas de diferentes creencias, disciplinas y gustos musicales, pero a todas ellas de alguna u otra manera les atrae este tipo de música y se identifican con ella, descubren algo que despierta sus espíritus y cada cual le da un sentido propio como parte de su vida. Algunos danzan libremente al compás de la música y otros solamente cierran sus ojos para escuchar, pero de alguna manera ese lenguaje universal crea una sinergia que une a los músicos con la gente que escucha.

Peregrino Gris is a Costa Rican band of Celtic music (the name Celtic is usually given to the music influenced by traditional music from Ireland, Scotland, Galicia and Brittany). The band was founded on 11 March 2001, although the research and composition began about seven years earlier. Peregrino Gris has participated in various activities. Among the most important are:

• World Music Fest at Hotel Herradura (2001)
• South Caribbean Festival in Playa Chiquita, Limon (2001 and 2002)
• Monteverde Music Festival (2002, 2003 and 2010)
• Presentation at the First International Celtic Music Festival alongside the renowned Irish composer, singer and instrumentalist Andy Irvine, and with Asgaya, a group that plays traditional and contemporary music of his native Asturias (2005)
• Transitarte Festival of the Municipality of San José (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009)
• International Arts Festival (2006)
• National Arts Festival (2003, 2007 and 2009)
• Mundoloco (Crazy World) Festival (2006, 2007 and 2008)
• 15 educational concerts for schools and high schools for the Ministry of Education (2007)
• 4 educational concerts for schools for the Ministry of Education (2008)
• Educational Concert for Harmony School in Pochote, Puntarenas, part of the National Music Education System (2009)
• Educational Concert for the School of Music of Desamparados, part of the National Music Education System (2010)

In addition to other festivals, the band has played in many public and private activities, both cultural and commercial, and constantly in Jazz Café in San Pedro. In December 2003 was released the first CD of the band, which caused the group to be known at various levels and created a large audience for their music. Two years later, in December 2005 the band released their second album called “Confrontación” (Confrontation), both productions include 100% original compositions and have been quite successful on sales and distribution. Additionally, the group recorded a traditional theme with the band Asgaya of Asturias (Spain) in 2006. Currently, Peregrino Gris is in the process of recording what would be their third CD with original music, and searching for possibilities in order to play their music in other countries. The band includes in his repertoire traditional music of Ireland, Scotland and Galicia also.

Peregrino Gris was born in Costa Rica, a country in which apparently there is no connection with the so-called Celtic countries. However, this project was not born by means of only listening to the music of Ireland and Scotland, but came from further work by understanding, listening and to playing traditional music from different countries, so through their music know the customs and lifestyle of its people. Thus, this research project has led to a cultural journey of exploration, which has found not only a relationship between seemingly different cultures, but also by their own experience, that music is an Universal Language, a human need, and traditional musics seem to link between them in a very natural way, uniting all human beings as part of a whole. Peregrino Gris’ followers are witnesses and participants in this connection: through the project there has been a lot of interaction with people of different faiths, disciplines, and musical tastes, but all of them in some way or another are attracted to this kind of music and identify themselves with it, they discover something that awakens their spirits and each person gives this music its own meaning as part of his or her life.Some of them dance freely to the beat of the music and others just close their eyes to listen, but somehow the universal language creates a synergy that unites musicians with the people who listen.
